MINNIE BLAKE MOORING STULTING HIGGINBOTHAM was born to John and Laura Josephine Powledge Mooring in Bedias, Texas, February 25, 1904. From age 17 until retirement, she worked for Southwestern Bell where she became the first female supervisor in the Business Office. Min had a great life! She said she'd been blessed to have two wonderful husbands. She outlived Wier Stulting, her husband of 42 years. At age 73 she married Jewel Higginbotham and became a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. A testimony to the joys of second love, the Higginbothams' great union lasted 20 years until his death at age 98. She was a faithful, active member of two churches during her life: Bering Memorial United Methodist for 65 years and West University United Methodist for the remaining years. At the age of 92 Minnie helped serve luncheons once a week at church. She didn't consider herself too old to do anything that needed doing. Minnie was a woman who didn't wait for good things to come to her; she made them happen. She was a go-er and a do-er: a life member of the Telephone Pioneers, Past-President of Briar Ladies of the Briar Club, and Past-President of the Houston Credit Women International. Her young-thinking approach attracted friends of all generations. She leaves her stepdaughter, Chris Sale and husband Hershel, who are grateful for her devotion to Mr. Higg; niece Bobbye Bartels and husband Gene; nephews and wives, Jack and Dorothy Mooring, James and Betty Lou Mooring, and Joe Mooring's widow Katherine; great-nieces, great-nephews, step-grandchildren and their families. The family expresses its appreciation to the staff of Holly Hall Retirement Center for the loving care given Minnie during the last five years. In lieu of flowers, you may wish to make a gift in her memory to Holly Hall, a facility supported by churches and individuals, at 8304 Knight Rd, Houston, TX, 77054-3906.

LODGE OF SORROW.
Annual memorial services will [sic] held next Sunday thoroughout [sic] Elkdom, and Bryan Lodge No. 859, F. C. Oliver, exulted ruler, will hold services at the opera house at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, with a program of ritualistic work, addresses and music.  Judge Muse, a leading lawyer and gifted [?] of Dallas, and Hon. G. F. McNulty of San Antonio, grand trustee of the order, and well known here, will be the orators of the occasion.   The name of the deceased members of the lodge together with dates of their deaths are as follows:  A. M. Rhodes, Oct. 28, 1903; G. W. McMichael, Oct. 5, 1904; T. H. Castles, Jan. 2, 1905; G. W. Smith, May 6, 1905; J. S. Mooring, Nov. 24, 1906.

FUNERAL OF MR. J. S. MOORING
    The funeral of Mr. J. S. Mooring was held at the Exchange hotel Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock in the presence of relatives and a large assemblage of friends, a number of them from other points.   The service was held in the hotel lobby and surrounding the casket were many exquisite floral tributes.  Rev. J. Wendel Davis, rector of St. Andrews Episcopal church, conducted the service, assisted by Dr. George B. Buttler, pastor of the Baptist church.  Members of Camp J. B. Robertson were present in a body and were honorary pall bearers.  The active pall bearers were Mayor J. E. Butler, A. A. Farley, Jno. M. Lawrence, Jno. E. Astin, R. M. Gordon, Judge A. G. Board, Jno. K. Parker, H. G. Rhodes.  A very long procession followed the remains to the city cemetery.
    Among those here from other points for the funeral were John Mooring of Bedias, Dr. and Mrs. Wm. Bowen, Mrs. J. T. Bowen, Wayman Taliaferro and little daughter, Capt. W. E. Barry and Miss Mamie Barry of Navasota, Mrs. A. D. McConnice of Houston, Mrs. Sam R. Frost and Mrs. F. N. Drane of Corsicana, C. M. Winkler and Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Winkler of Ennis.

Mrs. Alice E. Sugg Dies at Valley Mills

    WACO, Texas, April 1 - Mrs. Alice Elizabeth Sugg, 93, oldest resident of Bosque County, died Friday night.  Funeral Services were conducted Saturday afternoon at Valley Mills Baptist Church by the Rev. R. B. Stanton.
    Mrs. Sugg had been a member of the Baptist Church for eighty years and was a liberal contributor to Baylor University, Baylor College of Belton, Buckner's Orphan's Home and Baptist causes generally.
    She had been a resident of Valley Mills for fifteen years and before that lived at Mineola and at Dallas for twenty years, going to Valley Mills from Dallas.  She had been a stockholder in banks at Dallas, Mineola, Terrell and Hillsboro for many years.  She is survived only by distant relatives.
