    This Indenture made this Sixteenth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty nine between Presley Garrett and Elizabeth his wife of Gibson County Indiana of the one part and James Garrett of the County and Territory aforesaid of the other part.  Witnesseth that the Presley Garrett and Elizabeth his wife for and in Consideration of the sum of four hundred Dollars due them in the hand paid, by the said James Garrett the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge and acquit, and discharge the said James Garrett his heirs, executors, administrators have granted, bargained sold conveyed and confirmed by these presents do grant bargain sell convey and confirm unto the said James Garret his heirs and assigns the South West quarter of the South East quarter of Section number five in Township number three South of the base line in range number twelve west of the Second principal meridian of the lands of the United States offered for sale at Vincennes estimated to contains forty acres be the same more of less Together with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging and the reversions, remainders and profits thereof and all the estate title and interest of the said Presley Garrett and Elizabeth his wife in and to the same To have and to hold the premises aforesaid with all the appurtenances to the only proper use benefits and behoof of the said James Garrett his Heirs and assigns forever and the said Presley Garrett and Elizabeth his wife do covenant and agree to and with the said James Garrett his heirs and assigns forever that they the said Presley Garrett and Elizabeth his wife are lawfully [...] in fee of the premises aforesaid that they are free from all incumbrances and that they have good right to sell and convey the same in manner and form aforesaid and further that they and their heirs, executors, administrators, shall and will warrant forever defend the said promises to the said James Garrett and his heirs and against the lawful claims of all and every persons whatsoever.  In witness whereof the said Presley Garrett and Elizabeth his wife have hereunto set their hands and seals the year and day above written.
