This Indenture made this twenty eighth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventeen between Charles Mitchel formerly of Westmoreland County & State of Pennsylvania, but now of Franklin County in the State of Ohio & Jane his wife of the one part & Jacob Bult of the other part. Witnesseth that whereas a patent was issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to Elizabeth Mitchel on twenty fifth day of September one thousand and seven hundred and eighty nine on an application number 3626 entered the eight July 1769 in my name and which said tract of land was conveyed by Thomas Patton & Elizabeth his wife formerly Elizabeth Mitchel the aforesaid patentee on the third of June 1817 to Thomas Culbertson and Sarah Braden in trust to convey the same or two hundred & thirteen acres thereof to said Jacob Bult who had previously purchased the same from Edward Braden & Sarah his wife, who had purchased the same from Edward Braden and Sarah his wife, who had purchased the same under a power of attorney defectively acknowledged to Robert Patton executed by said Thomas Patton & Elizabeth his wife which said Thomas Patton & wife had received the purchase money from said Edward Braden therefore in order to suit the title of said previously purchased by said Jacob Bult in him & his heirs and to induce him to accept of a deed for said premises from said Thomas Culbertson & Sarah Braden agreeably to the deed of trust executed to them & to pay the ballance of the ballance of the purchase money due to the said Thomas Culbertson executor & Sarah Braden executors of the last Will and testament of said Edward Braden deceased for which he has heretofore given his bonds & after the further sum of one dollar now in hand paid by the said Jacob Bult the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained & sold, released, enfeoffed and confirmed & by these presents (Page 465) and by these presents do grant bargain & sell, alien release enfeoff & confirm unto the said Jacob Bult all our right title interest and claim of in and to the said tract of land and premises. To have and to hold the same to the only proper use & behoof of the said Jacob Bult his heirs & assigns forever. In testimony whereof we do hereunto set our lands and seals the day of the date of this Indenture

This Indenture made this first day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand and eight hundred and seventeen between Andrew Allison of Derry Township in the County of Westmoreland of the one part, and Jacob Bult of the Township of Derry in said County Witnesseth that whereas the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania by patent dated the twenty fifth day of September one thousand seven hundred & eighty nine granted to Elizabeth Mitchel now Elizabeth Patton wife of Thomas Patton now of Kentucky the plantation or tract of land whereon said Jacob Bult now resides in Derry Township Westmoreland County, which said land had been heretofore sold by said Thomas Patton & wife to Edward Braden by their Attorney Robert Patton by a Power of Attorney not duly executed or acknowledged but the purchase money duly paid to said Thomas Patton & wife and whereas said Edward Braden afterwards sold the same land to Jacob Bult & whereas the said Thomas Patton and his wife have duly conveyed the said plantation or tract of land since that time to Thomas Culbertson executor & Sarah Braden Executors of the last will and testament of said Edward Braden Dec’d who are desirous of conveying the same to said Jacob Bults according to the terms of the said contract of the said Edward Braden deceased with the said Jacob Bults therefore in order to induce the said Jacob Bults to accept of a conveyance for the same land from said Thomas Culbertson & Sarah Braden as aforesaid & that the way be assured of a good and perfect title to the same free and clear of all claims of the said Andrew Allison & Jane his wife or either of them or either of their heirs or assigns as heirs of Andrew Mitchel the elder who bought the same from his son Charles Mitchel & who gave the same to his sons William & Andrew Mitchel the younger, or as heirs to William Mitchell who gave his part to said Andrew Mitchell the younger the Father of said Elizabeth & that said Jacob Bults may be induced to pay the purchase money for said land to said Thomas Culbertson & Sarah Braden that yet remain unpaid and carry said contract into effect & for the further consideration of one dollar to them now in hand paid by the said Jacob Bults the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged & the said Jacob from the future Payment thereof forever discharged, have granted bargained sold released & confirmed to the said Jacob Bults all their right title interest & claims in law or equity to all or any parts of said plantation or tract of land to have and to hold the same to the said Jacob Bults, his heirs and assigns forever free and clear of all claims of the said Andrew Allison & Jane his wife or either of them & of their & either of their heirs or assigns forever. This Indenture made this first day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand and eight hundred and seventeen between Thomas Culbertson Executor and Sarah Braden Executrix of the last Will and testament of Edward Braden late of Derry Township Westmoreland County and State of Pennsylvania deceased of the one part and Jacob Bult . . . of the other part. Whereas the Supreme Executive Council of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania by patent bearing date the twenty fifth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty nine . . . did grant to a certain Elizabeth Mitchell (who hath since intermarried with a  certain Thomas Patton of Fleming County in the State of Kentucky a certain tract of land situate in what was then called Bedford County since Westmoreland aforesaid, which tract of land was called the “Storm” and contained two hundred and twenty one acres and a fourth with the usual allowance, . . . patent book No. 16 p. 70. Whereas the same land . . . was supposed to have been conveyed by Robert Patton [who acted in that behalf in pursuance of a defective letter of Attorney from the said Thomas Patton and Elizabeth his wife dated 25th day of July 1807] to the aforesaid Edward Braden since deceased . . . and the said Sarah Braden then his wife . . .by deed dated the 22nd day of June A.D. 1815 granted and conveyed a part of the tract of land in the above receited patent . . . two hundred thirteen acres . . . to the aforesaid Jacob Bult . . . bounded and described as follows to wit beginning at a post, thence by lands formerly of William Allison, south . . .  thence by land of William Mitchel north thirty one degrees . . . , whereas the said Thomas Patton and Elizabeth his wife having acknowledged the receipt of this purchase money . . .  granted . . . to the said Thomas Culbertson and Sarah Braden . . . do grant and convey . . . to the said Jacob Bult . . . all the aforesaid tract of land . . .

Abstract:
- William Garrett acquired a certificate dated 5/29/1850 from the Mercer Colony for 640 acres of land in Hopkins Co., Texas.
- The surveyed land (surveyed 8/23/1851) apparently spanned the border of Hopkins and Rains counties and totaled 631 acres.
- On 5/20/1857, the heirs of William relinquished the nine acres that were not in the survey.

To all to whom these Presents shall come, Greeting:

WHEREAS William Garrett of Gibson County, Indiana,

has deposited in the GENERAL LAND OFFICE of the United States, a Certificate of the REGISTER OF THE LAND OFFICE at Vincennes whereby it appears that full payment has been made by the said William Garrett according to the provisions of the Act of Congress of the 24th of April, 1820, entitled "An Act making further provision for the sale of the Public Lands," for 

the South East quarter of Section eighteen in Township three South of Range Twelve West, in the District of Sands subject to sale at Vincennes, Indiana, containing one hundred and Sixty acres.

according to the official plat of the survey of the said Lands, returned to the General Land Office by the SURVEYOR GENERAL, which said tract has been purchased by the said William Garrett.  

NOW KNOW YE, That the United States of America, in consideration of the Premises, and in conformity with the several acts of Congress, in such case made and provided, HAVE GIVEN AND GRANTED, and by these presets DO GIVE AND GRANT, unto the said William Garrett and to is heirs, the said tract above described:  TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the same, together with all the rights, privileges, immunities, and appurtenances of whatsoever nature, thereunto belonging, unto the said William Garrett and to his heirs and assigns forever.

[in 1852, Harvey Slack got a land grant for 320 acres as a colonist of the Peter's Colony (#31).  In 1854, he sold the grant to David Avis for $120.  There are 8 pages in this file.  Only the useful parts are transcribed here.  Note that p. 7 seems to show David Avis as the County Clerk of Grayson County.]

Know all by these presents that I Harvey Slack of the County and State afforesaid [sic] have this day, for and in Consideration of the Sum of One Hundred & Twenty dollars to me paid by, David Avis of the County and State afforesaid [sic] have bargained Sold Released and Transfered [sic] and by these presents due bargain Sell Release and Transfer all my right Title Interest and Claim in and to My Colony Headright Certificate No. 31 for three hundred and Twenty acres of Land issued to the Said Harvey Slack by Wm D[?] Fitch Clerk of the County of the Grayson County on the 14th day of May AD 1852.  
To have and to hold the same unto him the Said David Avis his heirs or assigns together with all and Singular the rights privaledges [sic] and Benefits thereunto belonging to or in any wise incident or appertaining forever.
And I hereby authorize the Commissioner of the Genl Land Office to issue a pattent [sic] to the Land or Lands Claimed by Virtue of the Same to him the Said Avis in his own name.
In Testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal (using scrowl[?] for seal) this 29th day of July A.D. 1854.

Whereas, In pursuance of the Act of Congress, approved September 28th, 1850, entitled "An Act granting Bounty Land to certain Officers and Soldiers who have been engaged in the Military Service of the United States," Warrant No. 4220 for 40 acres, issued in favor of 

William D. Cook Corporal in Captain Hallwel's Company Regiment Georgia Volunteers Florida War

has been returned to the General Land Office, with the evidence that the same has been duly located upon the 

Northeast quarter of the South West quarter of Section thirty one in Township Nineteen of Range ten in the District of Lands subject to sale at Lebanon Alabama containing Forty acres

according to the Official Plat of the Survey of the said Lands returned to the General Land Office by the SURVEYOR GENERAL:

    Now know Ye, That there is therefore granted by the UNITED STATES unto the said 

William D. Cook

the tract of Land above described: TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the said tract of Land, with the appurtenances thereof, unto the said
