Cook died on April 26, 1986 from internal injuries suffered in a car accident the previous day.  She never regained consciousness.  The car in which she was riding was broadsided by another vehicle and went into a ditch.  Her daughter Sandy and granddaughters Lori and Jenny suffered only minor injuries.
