FIRE DESTROYS NEW HOME SATURDAY WITH DAMAGE OF $3500
Burning grass is believed to have started the fire which completely destroyed the new house at 2702 Ninth street, owned by Jake Avis, at 3:30 Saturday afternoon. The flames gutted the interior and left nothing but a shell of the structure standing.
Firemen are of the opinion that grass burning near the west side of the place set fire to the garage, which was built on to the house, this in turn firing the main building. The alarm was not turned in until the flames had gained too great headway to be checked.
Loss is estimated at $3500 according to Mr. Avis. He had just started to move into the place and had put in a few articles of furniture when the fire was discovered. The loss is said to be partially covered by insurance.
