To the Honorable Legislator of the state of Texas Holding session at the City of Austin on the first Monday in Nov. 1859 your petitioners Respectfully Represent unto your Honorable Body That whereas the people of the Northwestern frontier are continually anoyed by the frequent continued outrages of the Indians stealing their property and Murdering their families they have been driven to the Necesity of forming themselves into Minute Companys at their own expence to range and keep scouts out for their protection and whereas those men have undergone and are still compelled to undergo privations and sufferings of a frontier Life Many of them will be reduced to want if your Honerable Body does not provide some relief for them and make some provisions to recompence them and make some provisions for their trouble and make some provision for their protection in the future if no Protection is afforded this part of the frontier will be compelled to abandon the country and whereas your petitioners believing that it would be just and right that your Honerable Body should grant to actual settlers on public domain preemption privaliges of one hundred and sixty acres of Land to persons that have settled on the frontier of Texas or that may herafter settle it would cause the country to settle up and secure homes to those that have bore the suffering and privation of a frontier life which has been for the Last two years to intolerable for people to bear Long at a time without some relief Whereas the citizens Montague County have organized a company of about forty men on the 15th day of Oct AD 1859 called Montague Mounted Riflemen Company Commanded by David G Parkhill capt for three months to range on the frontier of said county for to keep the Indians from stealing their horses and murdering their families said company keeping men out on scout all the time therefore your petitioners earnestly pray that the Honerable Legislator of the State of Texas will make some provisions to pay said company for their services for the same your petitioners pray the Hon Legislator to grant all the relief sought for in this petition as it may seem to be right in the premises For which we in duty bound ever pray
