Dear Sir:
Your letter of Sept 12th received and should have been answered previous to this time, but I have been very busy with some other things and have laid this aside for a more convenient time in answering it. I was glad to get the history of your ancestors. I think that this is a branch of the same family of which I am a branch.
I have traced the history some and find that there were three brothers landed in the United States from Holland and one of them remained on the Atlantic Coast, mostly in New Jersey, one of them went North and West, possibly into Michigan or Wisconsin and the other brother went South. We have quite a little history of the three brothers and family thru the Moravian Church in New Jersey. I was born and raised in New Jersey. My father lived in Foster County, New Jersey, near Lincoln, a small town, our nearest post office was Harrisonville. My father lived in this place as long as I Remember. I was born near Dearborn. I remember my grandfather very distinctly but died when I was quite a young boy.

Mr. J. D. Avis
The name "Avis" is not a very common name. I have run across a few of them. One in Salt Lake City, one in St. Louis, one in Santa Anna, Calif. and one in San Francisco. There are several where I came from in New Jersey, all related however. I have always felt that the Northern branch and the Southern branch as we have traced them back have come from the same source. Our family was quite a large one consisting of twelve children, eleven living until they were grown. Three of us are in California today. Five living in New Jersey in about the same old territory. I think that the stock from whence the three brothers were originated was about the time of my great grandfather. He landed here, if I remember right, sometime about the middle of the year 1700.
Should you ever get into California, I will be glad to have you look us up, as I am quite sure that there is some connection. I am at present about 58 years of age. I imagine that you are quite a little younger than that, from the age of your mother. Trusting that if there is any new developments or any information you would get that might lead up to the history of your family, you will not fail to give me, will be very much appreciated by
Yours Truly
A. B. Avis.
