We the members of Lavinia Proter Talley Chapter No. 229, United Daughters of the Confederacy, located in the city of Temple State of Texas, hereby petition that a Cross of Military Service be awarded to Charles Maples Rudd, honorable white citizen of the United States, of lineal Confederate descent, who served honorably in the World War, subsequent to April 5, 1917 and prior to November 11, 1918 and whose record as a Veteran of the World War together with the record of his Confederate lineage is as follows:

Was flying back to Mather Field after the armistice celebration and was lost in fog - accident at Stockton Cal  evening Nov 12 1919.

This is to certify that the records of Lavinia Porter Talley Chapter No. 229 United Daughters of the Confederacy, located at Temple, Texas show that Mrs. Maggie Mooring Rudd the daughter of Charles Grey Mooring, was elected to membership in the Chapter, after having established the honorable service of, and her lineal descent from Charles Grey Mooring, a Private in Co. G, Reg. 4th Texas Confederate States Army (or Navy) during the war between the States.
