28. John appears in Edgecombe Co., NC around 1805-10 where he shows up in the 1810 census. But whose son is he? He presumably came from a Pitt Co., NC Mooring family. In the 1800 Pitt Co. census, the families were headed by William, Christopher and John. In 1800, William had 3 sons: 2 b. 1791-1800, 1 b. 1785-90 (see #15); in 1810, he shows only 2 sons: 1 b. 1795-1800 and 1 b. 1785-1794 (see #12). John was b. 1787 (see #18), so he would fit the missing son. William’s brother Christopher had sons (see #15) but presumably left the region with his sons ca. 1801 (see Pitt Co., NC deed book P p. 143). William’s brother John also had sons (see #15) but they were too young and were still in Pitt Co. in 1810 (see #12). So, John must have been the son of William.

52. John (father) and Christopher (son) were the only Moorings in Surry Co., VA records until the 1740’s; 1683 Surry Co., VA tithables list
53. In 1817, Elizabeth got dower grant of 100 A for being widow of William - Pitt Co., NC deed book AA p. 250.
In 1818, Hardee sells land to John formerly belonging to William, dec’d - Pitt Co., NC deed.
In 1827, Elizabeth (widow of William) lives on land called ‘Hardee Mooring tract’ - Pitt Co., NC deed book EE p. 279.
Therefore, Hardee is surely a son of William and Elizabeth.
